Low Energy Cooling Systems

Status
Completed (1993 - 1997)

Overview

The aim of the project was to provide design tools/guidance on the application of low energy cooling technologies to buildings. The technologies addressed included night cooling (natural and mechanical ventilation), ground cooling (air), ground cooling (water), evaporative cooling (direct and indirect), desiccant and evaporative cooling, slab cooling (air), slab cooling (water), displacement ventilation and chilled ceilings.

The main deliverables were:

  • A review of low energy cooling technologies - see Publications below:
  • Tools to assist the design of low energy cooling systems. These include:
Pre Design Guidance for identifying feasible technologies
Simplified Design Tools for estimating performance during early design development
Detailed Design Tools for optimising a design during the detailed design phase.
  • Case studies providing application examples and feedback on operation and performance in practice.
